First Battle of the Marne (sep 6, 1914 – sep 10, 1914)
Description:
The French Army and the British Expeditionary Force led an offence against Germany who had invaded Belgium and north-east France. After previous offences led by Germany, at the Battle of the Marne, Britain and France led a counter-offensive resulting in the defeat and retreat of the German Army. This was significant as it marked the end of Germany’s entry into France and dismissed Germany’s hope for an easy victory in the west.
