Description:

Rabbi Haim Abulafia rebuilt the Jewish community of Tiberias, and subsequently the Jewish community in Palestine (the Land of Israel) once again became host to leading rabbinic figures, centered in the "four holy cities" (Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias, and Hebron).

With the aliyah movements of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the arrival of millions of Jewish refugees from throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa to the State of Israel after the 1950s, the Land of Israel became the world's leading center of Jewish religious authority.
