The Serpent's Plague (jun 28, 1232 – sep 18, 1233)

Description:

The Serpent's Plague originated in The Bay of Serpents. The Bay of Serpents was in between Lunarium and Farallon.
In Southwestern Arcanó it is a delicacy to eat Sea Serpents, which are a form of Serpents that live in the ocean. One year 12 loads of thousands of Serpents were caught and brought to market. But little did the Serpenteers and buyers know there was a new form of parasite in the Serpents. The parasite was a worm like creature that lays its eggs in the Sea Serpent then dies. When people ate the Sea Serpent they also ate the eggs. When the eggs hatched the newly born worms, known as Fester Worms, started to feed on the host's blood and digestive tissues. Because the parasite fed on blood and tissue the hosts slowly runs out of it. First the hosts/victims skin started to pale. Then they started to get light-headed. After about a week the victim became too weak to stand and had to stay in bed. In about a week and a half the worm laid its eggs. But the host don't live long enough for the new eggs to hatch. The victims died within two weeks.
It didn't take long for the kingdoms to realize what was causing the thousands of deaths. The governments sent out notices for citizens to stop eating the Serpents. Thousands stopped eating but a few hundred stubborn people kept eating. The people that kept eating Serpents died.
After the Plague a new law was put in place for all Sea Serpents caught to be examined before going to market. If a Serpent had any traces of the Fester Worms or eggs then they would to burned.
