Description:
In May 1989, nearly a million Chinese, mostly young students ,protested for democracy and "call for the resignations of Chinese Communist Party leaders deemed too repressive." For about three weeks they marched and chanted.On June 4, 1989, Chinese troops fired on the protesters. Thousands of the protesters tried to escape and other protesters fought back, "stoning the attacking troops and overturning and setting fire to military vehicles." Thousands of protesters were killed and 10,000 were aressted.
