China's Great Leap Forward (Famine) (jan 1, 1958 – jan 1, 1962)

Description:

The Great Leap Forward of the People's Republic of China was an economic and social campaign led by the Chinese Communist Party. Mao Zedong wanted increased efforts to bring industry to the countryside. Local officials were fearful of Anti-Rightist Campaigns and lied about the numbers and exaggerated. It left the farmers starving. They did not dare to report the disaster caused by the national officials. So they blamed bad weather for the decline in food. 15–55 million died, making the Great Chinese Famine the largest in human history.
