Era of Enlightenment (jan 1, 1715 – jan 1, 1789)

Description:

The Age of Enlightenment  was an intellectual movement in which essential writers challenged peoples' relationship to government and how that tied into religion. Thomas Hobbes was an influential figure of the Age of Enlightenment . He was an English philosopher who believed that humans need government for staple necessities, not religion. People need government and a king for self-protection and stability. He enforced the idea that people were not entitled to rule because of a divine right, chosen by God. This declaration was the first non-religious statement made; God is not why the government is established but for structure and unity needs.
