Germany invades Poland and France (sep 1, 1939 – jun 22, 1940)
Description:
The German tactic of Blitzkrieg, which utilizes heavy air support and lightning offensives was highly effective early in the war. Poland, France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and the Netherlands all fell to German control in just over 9 months. While the Germans had originally intended to push farther and invade Britain, the British Navy prevented them from crossing the English Channel.
