The Mukden Incident/Manchurian Crisis (sep 18, 1931 – feb 18, 1932)
Description:
The Japanese staged an explosion on a rail way close by which was owned by Japan’s South Manchuria Railway. The imperial Japanese Railway accused Chinese dissidents of the act, and thus, Japan invaded Manchuria, and eventually led to the establishment of Manchukuo, a puppet-state controlled by Japan. The creation of Manchukuo gave them security for territory in Korea, while also establishing a strong presence within China, from where they could continue their invasion into China afterwards.
