The First Sino-Japanese War (aug 1, 1894 – apr 17, 1895)
Description:
The first Sino Japanese war, was the first overseas war for Japan who had just came out of isolationism. They defeated the Chinese army which was less modernized than them in an embarrassing fashion. This put Japan on the map as a dominant power in the pacific region. The war was due to Japanese attempt to expand toward Korea who had for long been the main client of the Chinese empire. The war was the first step in Japanese expansionism, as they attempted to expand through Korea to further shape their economy, society, and government around that of the western nations. As a result of the war, China lost all influence on the Korean peninsula to Japan and China also lost Taiwan, Pescadores, and Liaodong Peninsula to the Empire of Japan.
