The Start of the Chinese Civil War (apr 1, 1927 – apr 1, 1927)
Description:
The Chinese Civil War was fought between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. It started in 1927, before Japan began its secondary wave of expansionism. When the war occurred, the Japanese took advantage of the turmoil and established foothold influences within China. This would be seen in the Mukden Incident, where Japan would invade Manchuria and establish Manchuko, all while the country was in a civil war. The war really allowed Japan to establish its plans to invade China, while the Chinese could not have developed resistance plans as they were fighting amongst themselves. During the Mukden Incident for example, President Chiang Kai-Shek was intent on establishing his control over the rest of China, and ordered the commander of the Chinese forces in Manchuria, Zhang Xueliang, to pursue a policy of nonresistance and withdrawal.
