Description:
Harthacnut is fetched from Bruges and arrives a in England a week later to begin his reign. He orders Harold's body be disinterred and flung into a fen. According to one source, the body was flung into the Thames, before being relaimed by a sympathetic fisherman and buried in London't Danish cemetary.
Harthacnut's reign compromised by his desire to raise extortionate sums of money to pay for his fleet and mercenaries, maintained at 62 ships in the first year, then 32 in the second. £21,000 raised in his first year and £11,000 the year after. Inflation followed. Two housecarls sent to Worcester to collect tax were killed. Harthacnut sent an army to Worcester to 'plunder and burn the city, and to lay waste to the entire region.' Harthacnut dies at a wedding in Lambeth.
