Although cases are reported every year, and the country of Madagascar reports outbreaks frequently, the third and one of the biggest epidemics occurred in China in 1894. It took 80,000 lives and then continued to spread. The epidemic ended in 1924, after spreading into the US through immigration.Added to timeline:
