Age of discovery (search for riches) (jan 1, 1400 – jan 1, 1600)

Description:

The Age of Discovery was a period in European history in which extensive overseas exploration took place. Lots of the "unknown" world was mapped. This exploration was important as Europeans learned about outside regions, cultures, and goods. Prince Henry is often credited with beginning the Age of Discovery, the period during which European nations expanded their exploration to Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Henry wasn't a sailor or a navigator. Though, he did sponsor several sea explorations. In 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias became the first European mariner to round the southern tip of Africa, opening the way for a sea route from Europe to Asia. He was born in 1450 and died in 1500. Rounding the southern tip of Africa was a huge step for exploration and trade opportunities. He was a Portuguese navigator who is known as the first European to reach Brazil.
