Description:
After the civil war and execution of Charles, Oliver Cromwell became a military dictator of England. It was originally decided that the new government would be a republican government known as the Protectorate. Parliament would have power within the new government, however it was dismissed by Cromwell shortly after. England was now under a strict Puritan reign. The Protectorate collapsed with Cromwell's death.Added to timeline:
