Reign of Louis XIV (may 14, 1643 – sep 1, 1715)
Description:
Louis XIV was an absolute monarch. He believed in divine right and named himself the "Sun King". He assumed total power by never calling a meeting of the Estates General, depriving the nobles of a voice. Louis the XIV also believed in religious unity. He revoked the Edict of Nantes and named Catholicism the sole religion of France. He is also known for having lived lavishly at the palace of Versailles.
