California Gold Rush (jan 24, 1848 – jan 14, 1855)
Description:
The discovery of gold nuggets in Sacramento California caused a major movement west in the United States. People rushed westward in hopes of striking gold. This event was significant to the US because before this the majority of the population was in the eastern side of the US prior to this and this event helped to spread the population westward and caused major cities to come up in the west.
