The Underground Railroad (jan 1, 1810 – jan 1, 1850)

Description:

This was a route that slaves took to get away from their masters and to escape slavery into freedom. Between 1810 and 1850, approximately 100,000 slaves escaped bondage in the south to freedom in the north. They escaped through a network of meeting places, secret routes, passageways, and safehouses to escape to northern states and even as far as Canada. There were abolitionists who helped along the way, breaking laws and illegally hiding slaves to get them to freedom.
