Description:
The Great Migration from 1910 to 1920, was a time when many African Americans moved to northern cities for a new life, one of the cities was Harlem. During the Harlem Renaissance everything was new. The music, the art, the literature, the style was all reimagined, nothing was how it had been. Jazz and scat was invented as well as the night clubs they were performed in, One ironically named “The Cotton Club”. The Harlem Renaissance was all about getting back to your roots and creating something unique to black culture. The art had aspects of southern life as well as African. The Harlem Renaissance was a time when African Americans could really find and claim themselves.
