Harlem Renaissance (jan 1, 1920 – jan 1, 1930)

Description:

During the 1920’s the lives of African Americans were changing significantly. Many started moving to northern cities during the early 1900’s and this symbolized a change in their culture and their changing attitudes. During this time, organizations like the NAACP and UNIA were formed to protect the right of African Americans and work towards their equality. One of the main points of the Harlem Renaissance was the fact that African Americans were taking pride in their heritage and from that they were publishing literature and making artwork that came from their past experiences and wasn’t the same style as the white southerners at the time.
