Lincoln Presidency (mar 4, 1861 – apr 15, 1865)

Description:

As the 1860 presidential election approached, the Republican party elected Abraham Lincoln as their candidate. He seemed to be somewhat moderate, but one of his major platforms was making sure that slavery did not spread more than it already had, causing him to be very disliked in the south, not even appearing on some of their ballots. When he was elected, the southern states decided that it was time to secede, leading to the civil war. Later during the civil war, Lincoln put the emancipation proclamation into action, one of his biggest and most famous accomplishments as a president. He was assassinated in 1865, less than two months into his second term.
