Mexican-American War (apr 25, 1846 – feb 2, 1848)

Description:

Mexico claimed the Nueces River as its northeastern border, while the U.S. claimed the Rio Grande River and fire broke out when they met by the river. The war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo where US received the territories of Texas, New Mexico and California. It was a great victory for US but they had to pay $15 million and lost 13,000 soldiers in the fight.
