Jackson Presidency (mar 4, 1829 – mar 4, 1837)

Description:

Jackson was the first “common man” to become president. His parents were immigrants from Ireland and a war hero from the War of 1812. The first time Jackson won for president he lost to John Quincy Adams even though Jackson received more votes in the election. In 1828 he ran again and won. Andrew Jackson is the reason Presidents are able to hire/fire cabinet members. He wanted a small, strong, federal government and fought against the National Bank believing it only helped the rich. On a less positive note he is also responsible for the Indian Removal Act.
