Geneva Summit 1955 (19h 40min, jul 18, 1955 y – 1h 2min, sep 20, 1955 y)
Description:
Khrushchev accepted flexibility within the Soviet policy as a drive to peaceful co-existence. He had a real incentive to slow down the nuclear arms race, and promote internal economic development.
Less confrontation would make these goals achievable.
Eisenhower 'open skies' proposal (dismissed by Khrushchev)
Future of Germany:
Eisenhower proposed a reunified Germany, free elections, and Germany's freedom to ensure its own security, which would mean it would become apart of NATO.
Khrushchev would allow a reunified Germany on the basis it was neutral and demilitarised.
Overall outcome: Little success, but very successful with the start of diplomacy between the two global powers.
