Description:

MacArthur ordered Japan to establish a 75,000 strong National Police Reserve, trained by the US.
August 1952, Japanese government established a force of 110,000 ground troops, 7,600 maritime personnel.
November 1952, US announced a Japanese air force.
Eisenhower administration took over in 1953 and Dulles (Secretary of State) wanted to enlarge the ground force.
July 1954, US funding was around $240 million and the US sold agricultural surplus to Japan.
US policy led up until 1954 after the end of the Korean war when the Communism threat fell.
