PvP Generation (Gen 3) (sep 28, 2020 – dec 15, 2020)
Description:
The beginning of Gen 3 was caused by PvP turning on at Fight Club. This change began the Queue Renaissance, the beginning of the Modern Queue Era, due to the massive popularity increase that Fight Club brought to queue. PvP at Fight Club brought in a new wave of players who were interested in the addition of PvP along with the expansion of the book market as more enchantments were now useful. However, there was one issue: the only players that could easily produce cheap weapons were players on player islands. Due to the regeneration from queue being in peaceful mode, it was almost impossible for success in hand-to-hand combat, so players on player islands had the opportunity to sell weapons for profit, something that no other players had or could gain the advantage of. These issues led to the creation of Queue Town.
Queue Town was created an area where players could by volumes of space on queue that they would have permissions to. These permissions allowed players have significantly more storage as these players could place and use chests and barrels to store more items. Along with the plot of land, these players also had access to a tree farm and a cobblestone generator, so they could produce cheap stone tools. This change made bulk fishing a more viable option as players could farm wood for charcoal and then smelt an inventory of fish with very many smokers. A shop was also made for Queue Town where players could buy oak saplings, wheat seeds, dirt, grass, sand, and an ender chest. This allowed players to use glass and make farms on their plot. Along with the Queue Town Shop, two more shops were created in Gen 3.
Along with the Queue Town Shop, two more shops were added: Mian's Convenience Store and Birch Shop. Mian's Convenience Store was added as a way to access an ATM and weekly shop items more easily. However, it also had worse prices than the Queue Server Shop where some players who were unaware of the Queue Server Shop would get less from their fish. Birch Shop was added to allow players to use another wood type on their plot. It also sold paper, which allowed players to reliably make map walls on queue with compasses being a permanent offer in Mian's Convenience Store. Prismarine crystals, also offered in Birch Shop, would not be very useful until the addition of the Troll Shop in the Hypergen Era.
Along with the larger events of Fight Club, Queue Town, and multiple new shops, some minor events also occurred. All moderators had their creative mode permissions taken away, with the exception of Jake and ercercerc (who would use their creative mode to create and update build on queue), due to a major badminning situation. The first island imported from the creative server and the first player to hit 100k fish also happened in Gen 3. Along with this, the lore on queue also progressed as Dunkey came back from the dead and resided in a new church, where he stands today. Many of these minor events would lead to more impactful events in the future. However, Gen 3 would not last forever and would transition into the Pre-Hypergen Era.
Gen 3 began to decline as the hype from PvP began to die down. Players were also not motivated to play queue after they got a plot since everything after buying a plot gave diminishing returns. As a final nail in the coffin for Gen 3, frequency of server restarts would be increased from every 12 hours back to every 6 hours, allowing more players to get into the main server causing newer players to get into the main server without learning about queue and older players to get into the main server after buying a plot and getting bored of queue. However, queue would not die due to SuspiciousTree, who would revolutionize the speed of wealth accumulation with a new way to gain wealth on queue.
