Spanish American War (apr 21, 1898 – aug 12, 1898)
Description:
Originating in the Cuban struggle for independence, the Spanish American War rid Spain of its remaining colonies in the western Pacific and Latin America. Incited by the sinking of the Maine, the United States went to war with Spain, winning relatively easily due to Spain's under supported navy. The 1898 Treaty of Paris ceded Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico and sold the Philippines to the United States.
