Jackson Presidency (mar 4, 1829 – mar 4, 1837)
Description:
Rising from a childhood in poverty, Andrew Jackson was a war hero and served as a general in the War of 1812. He ran for President in 1824 but lost to Adams. He ran again in 1828 and won. During his Presidency, the Democrats and the Whig Party emerged. Whigs were upset with his attitude that he was an "absolute ruler of his administration’s policy" and nicknamed him "King Andrew I". Though he did many important things for the country, such as starve off a civil war during the South Carolina Crisis in 1832, his Presidency is tarnished by the forced relocation of Native Americans from their homelands.
