Description:
Once the King was killed, it became known that the government could kill anyone. Under the leadership of the Committee of Public Safety, led by Maximillien Robespierre, 16,000 enemies of the revolution were sentenced to death by guillotine. This included Marie Antoinette, charged with aiding an enemy and inciting civil war, and Maximilien Robespierre.
