As a young man he was inspired by Russian serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo, "The Rostov Ripper."
From 18 years old he started his spree.
Luring victims to a park near his home. He would walk them into the forest. He would incapacitate them then throw their bodies (dead or alive) into steel plate covered wells. if they survived his initial attack they would drown in the well.
Inspired by his love for chess, his goal was to kill 64 people, one for every square on a chess board. He admitted later that he would have continued killing past 64 till he was stopped.
