Janaki Ammal (nov 4, 1897 – feb 7, 1984)
Description:
Janaki Ammal became India's first female botanist, developing several plant breeds and working on both phytogeography and cytogenetics. She spent much of her time working on sugar cane plants and brinjal (eggplants) and many of her breeds are still utilized today (Schmidt).
