The Gunpowder Plot (jan 1, 1566 – jan 1, 1625)

Description:

English Roman Catholics conspired to blow up the parliament, King James I And his queen. Robert Catesby, Thomas Winter, Thomas Percy, John Wright and Guy Fawkes. They hoped that with the confusion after the death of the king would allow English Catholics to take over the Protestant English government. They were mad against the English government due to the Penal Laws, which were laws that criminalized Roman Catholicism. The group of the main five conspirators on 1604 began to plan the plot, dig their way through the caller after having one member being hired by the House of Lords and finally placing 1.5 tons of gunpowder. The conspirators believed that on November 5th 1605, they would be able to kill the king and formulate a group of supporters that Guy Fawkes will collect back in the European continent and finally take over the government by demanding their way through the government. However on October 26th one of the lords received a letter that warned him specific not to come on the 9th due to something bad happen. After learning about this the lord on November 4th searches every cell in the parliament building and found Guy Fawkes in the cellar where the gunpowder was placed. After being tortured Fawkes told the other 9 conspirators and all were arrested. This lead to the increase in laws against Roman Catholics and the tolerance toward religious integration into the states was destroyed.
