Genes stored in DNA and not proteins confirmed
Alfred Hershey, Martha Chase (jan 1, 1952 – jan 1, 1952)
Description:
At the Carnegie Institute of Washington in New York, scientists Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase wanted to further prove, to make it certain that Avery and team’s statement about DNA being the blueprint of genes and not proteins as suggested by Friedrich Miescher. Although Erwin Chargraff’s experiments led to knowing the ratios of DNA bases as well as that different species have different amounts of those bases, his experiments weren’t enough to solidify Avery and team’s statement. So, Hershey and Chase conducted their own experiments beginning in 1951. There further research and conformation discovery have led to more scientists and the world accepting that DNA is the source for genetic information leading to further research and more accurate studies.
