Description:
- Admiral Frank J. Fletcher commanded the Allies in the battle- The battle took place on the Coral Sea in the South Pacific
- The Japanese were seeking control of the Coral Sea with an invasion of Port Moresby near Australia. American and Australian forces defended the sea and stopped the Japanese advance.
- The battle was fought in the sea and in the air with plane warfare. Each side had catastrophic losses but the Allies had been successful in stopping the Japanese advance and forcing them to turn back for the first time since Pearl Harbor
