Description:

Bloody Anzio (Italy) was a battle that took place during the Italian campaign. It involved the US and Great Britain fighting against Nazi Germany and the Italian Social Republic. The allied sides were led by Harold Alexander and Mark W. Clark to name a few. The axis side was led by Albert Kesserling. The battle started with the landing of allied troop carrier ships at Anzio and Cassino. The goal of this attack was to weaken the German army on the Winter Line. The battle on Anzio would aim to make the Germans panic and retreat. The battle however ended in a stalemate. The stalemate was broken with an allied breakout offensive. The battle and the outcome ultimately led to the capture of Rome, and subsequently, the downfall of fascist Italy.
