Charles I was born on November 19, 1600, in Dunfermline Palace, Fife, Scotland, and died on January 30, 1649, in London, England. He was the second surviving son of James I and Anne of Denmark. He was the king of Great Britain and Ireland from 1625 to 1649. Charles’s authoritarian style of rule, meaning the government is more interested in having people follow the law than in people having freedoms, and conflicts with Parliament caused a civil war. After the war, he was executed due to high treason and “other high crimes against the realm of England.”
