Luca Marenzio (jan 1, 1553 – jan 1, 1599)

Description:

He was an Italian composer and singer, with very popular and influential madrigals. He wrote around 500 madrigals, and published 23 books of them. Marenzio has no singular style of madrigals, allowing each text to dictate to him how to compose the music. This was due to his high concern with text painting and using whatever techniques necessary to get an effect across. He could accomplish dramatic mood shifts and cover vast harmonic ground quickly.
