King Henry VIII (jan 1, 1491 – jan 1, 1547)

Description:

He was perhaps England’s most infamous king, largely responsible for England's split from Catholicism. In 1527, he, a practicing catholic, tried to divorce his wife through the church. The Catholic church said no, and their relationship soured. Whether for reasons personal, political, or mixed, throughout the 1530s and 1540s Henry drifted away from the catholic church—especially papal authority. This gradually led to the instilment of the Church of England, which more moderately split from the Catholic church than Lutherans.
