Hildegard Von Bingen (jan 1, 1098 – jan 1, 1179)
Description:
Hildegard Von Bingen was a German benedictine abyss. Becoming a nun as a teenager, she lived in a convent for the rest of her life. She began seeing visions which she believed to be from God, and — after approval from the Pope — she described the visions in music and literature with religious authority. There are more surviving works from her than any other middle age composer. Some of her melodic figures derive from chant (ie cadence circling) and some don’t (ie big leaps).
