Description:
- Was handpicked to be one of the three black students to integrate West Virginia’s graduate schools.
- She was hired at NACA in 1953
- She was the first woman in the Flight Research Division to receive credit as an author of a research report.
- She became most known for running the orbital equations for a space flight, by hand.
- President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor.
