Reformation (jan 1, 1517 – dec 31, 1648)

Description:

The Protestant Reformation greatly impacted the world in the 1500s and has also effected modern day societal norms. The Reformation was a long-term movement that challenged papal authority and questioned the practices of the Catholic Church. This, over a century long, movement largely effected religion, philosophy, politics, and economics of the time. Direct impact of the Reformation is seen religiously and philosophically due to dissatisfaction of the Catholic Church. Fractured opinions about salvation led to the creation of the multiple Christian denominations seen today. Economically, reformers like John Calvin taught a doctrine of predestination and hard work which augmented the economic system of capitalism. Reformers continuously fed the mood of anti-authoritarianism resulting in the rise of democratic principles. This challenge of authority during the Reformation inspired major historical movements such as women's suffrage and civil rights. The Reformation was the ground starter for religious rights seen in the modern world. Now, people have the freedom to choose their religion from a multitude of denominations, have no religion, and live freely due to there being no papal or church restraint placed on their lifestyles. The World has evolved into a melting pot of religions that all began with the Protestant Reformation.
