Description:
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was the first member of the recently-established Republican party elected to be president of the United States. Lincoln’s goal during the Civil War was to eliminate slavery and he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to help do so. He also successfully preserved the Union during the war by ultimately defeating the Confederacy.
