The Battle of the Marne (aug 6, 1914 – aug 12, 1914)
Description:
This battle brought an end to of movement battles and because of the German advance, it brought the battles to a half, stalemate and trench warfare battles. The causalities of the battle were heavy, with the French having 20,000 loss and it is believed that the Germans suffered around the same. This battle was important as it finally halted the German advance and forced them to retreat and entrench their positions. This is what stopped manoeuvre war for the Western Front and began the trench warfare.
