Description:

The Harlem Renaissance was a artistic and literary era, that celebrated African-American culture. It was lead by middle-class, educated African Americans that had a new found pride in their culture. Many famous people arose out of this era. For example: Claude McKay who was a novelist and poet, Langston Hughes was also a poet, and Paul Robeson an actor. The era brought new art and music. One type of music was jazz. One famous person in jazz, was Louis Armstrong. Jazz spread quickly and became the most famous type of music, especially for dancing. Another composer/singer was Duke Ellington, along with Bessie Smith. The Harlem Renaissance was an era of social, cultural, and economic growth.
