The Mississippi River (jan 1, 1673 – dec 1, 1674)
Description:
The Governor of New France sent seven explorers that was led by a Catholic missionary named Jacques Marquette, and a fur trader named Louis Joliet, on an expedition to explore rivers and lakes. They were searching and hoping to find the Northwest Passage. They started their trip on the northern tip of Lake Michigan. Then went across Lake Michigan and went into the Fox River. The Fox River led them to the Mississippi River which they explored. They finally figured out that there is no Northwest Passage. The Mississippi River didn’t flow west to east but north to south.
