Wisconsin Glacial Stage (jan 1, 1 – jan 1, 1)

Description:

The Glacier Episodes was the last major advance of continental glaciers in North America. There were three glacial ages, also known as maxima. The three are called Tahoe, Tenaya, and Tioga. Tahoe was the oldest and Tioga was the youngest. Tahoe got to its maximum extent about 70,000 years ago. Tenaya isn’t as well known. Tioga began about 30,000 years ago and ended around 10,000 years ago. Tioga was the least severe. This also was the last glacier time in the era. At the peak of the glaciation, the Bering Strait was formed letting humans go across into North America. The Great Lakes was a result of the glacier era. Several of the glacier lakes carved out the upper Mississippi River, which flowed into the Driftless Area. Part of the Driftless Area is in Southwestern Wisconsin. This is an area that no glaciers went on. It stayed hilly and not flat.
