Presidential Elections (jan 1, 2000 – dec 31, 2003)
Description:
In presidential elections Opposition leader Vojislav Kostunica claims victory over Slobodan Milosevic but Milosevic refuses to release the full election results and demands a run-off election. Milosevic is arrested in Belgrade and charged with misuse of state funds and abuse of office. Also in February 2003, the Yugoslav Parliament agrees to form a new state, replacing the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia with a loose federation now called Serbia and Montenegro, and allowing for a further referendum on independence within three years.
