Description:

The Age of Enlightenment was a revolution of ideas and thought. Most people date the beginning with the start of the French Revolution. People changed the way they thought about religion and state, freedom and self-government, and so much more. People like John Locke and Voltaire stirred up the public and inspired a want for civil liberties. Ideas came up that undermined monarchy and Catholic religious rule, preceding the political revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries.
