European Wars of Religion (jan 1, 1524 – jan 1, 1697)
Description:
The European wars of religion were fought by Christians in Europe. They were a result of the Protestant reformation and struggles for power by various groups. It climaxed with the Thirty Year’s War (1618-1648), which devastated Germany. The conflicts were mostly resolved by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which officially recognized three separate practices in the Roman Empire: Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, and Calvinism. Despite efforts to end disputes, smaller wars were fought until the 1710s.
