Constitutional Convention (may 25, 1787 – sep 17, 1787)

Description:

Date: May 25 1787 - September 17 1787

Description: This 100 day debate took place in Philadelphia. The purpose of this was decide how the US was going to be governed. James Madison and Alexander Hamilton wanted to create a new government rather than try to fix the old one, so the delegates chose George Washington as the one in charge. 55 delegates were sent to the convention, with no representation from Rhode Island. After two months of debate over the Virginia Plan and many disagreements on the Committee of the Whole, the Constitution was drafted in July and adopted on September 17 with 39 signatures.
