The Incas and the Aztecs (jan 1, 1500 – jan 1, 1600)
Description:
Major Cultures in the Americas
Some of the major empires that dominated the Americas during this time were the Incas and the Aztecs. The Incas flourished from early 15th century until the Spanish took over in 1530. The Incas believed that they were created by the sun god, as well as many other gods. They often prayed and offered sacrifices to these gods which often included animals. The Aztecs flourished from 1345-1521. They dominated agriculture as well as trade in the Americas. Like the Incas, the Aztecs believed in many different gods. However, their sacrifices were much more violent. Their sacrifices often included their enemies. They would either remove their heart and “feed” it to the gods to show the act of bravery, or just completely decapitate them. But as the colonies from Europe started dominating the Americas, their culture often referred to as savagery, slowly faded.
